Oil Lamps and Whitewashed Walls…<\/span><\/strong><\/p>

Full many a year has vanished<\/h1>

Through time\u2019s magic looking glass,<\/span><\/p>

Since first I saw that cottage,<\/span><\/p>

Now set in memories past.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

It nestled \u2018neath a hillside<\/span><\/p>

Decked out in heather fair,<\/span><\/p>

With it\u2019s roof of weathered rushes<\/span><\/p>

Held down with s\u00fag\u00e1ns rare.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

But all that was as nothing,<\/span><\/p>

Though beautiful to behold,<\/span><\/p>

Compared with all the brightness<\/span><\/p>

In it\u2019s whitewashed walls so bold.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

And when fair evening\u2019s mantle<\/span><\/p>

Soaked the brightness from our day,<\/span><\/p>

Its oil-lamp spread it\u2019s yellow light,<\/span><\/p>

With gold in every ray.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

As then our cottage oil lamp<\/span><\/p>

Threw its gold rays far and wide,<\/span><\/p>

To guide us home at long day\u2019s end<\/span><\/p>

To our home on Drum\u2019s hillside.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

And the golden yellow brightness<\/span><\/p>

From our oil lamp in full flight,<\/span><\/p>

Guided home our wandering footsteps,<\/span><\/p>

Through the darkness of the night.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

Though now those days are long past,<\/span><\/p>

And the \u2019<\/span>lectric shines at will,<\/span><\/p>

I still can see, in my mind\u2019s clear eye,<\/span><\/p>

That cottage \u2018neath the hill.<\/span><\/p>

.<\/span><\/span><\/p>

And so I really miss it,<\/span><\/p>

When back through the years I go,<\/span><\/p>

That lovely limewashed cottage,<\/span><\/p>
